Beginning January 31, Phillip Scoggins will host a discussion group every Thursday evening at 7:30 called Socrates Cafe.
The topics vary widely, but generally center around social and cultural issues, and current events. Ultimately, we want everyone to know that we care what you think about things.
Socrates was an ancient Greek philospher who developed the method of questioning that bears his name, the Socratic Method. It turns out that people retain what they learn far longer when they are allowed to discover it themselves. And there are few ways to help someone acheive this that are more effective than a string of thoughtful, probing questions.
Just so you know, there is no "right" conclusion at the end. The conversation is an end in itself, and hopefully that is exactly what will bring us to a greater understanding of the deeper truths in ourselves, and in one another.
